Product Design & Interaction

I'm an engineer and creative technologist with a passion for creating products that help people live better. I believe great products begin with a deep understanding human desires, are conceived through iteration and failure, and succeed by obsessing over the details.

I have worked as a

2014 - 2018
Senior Design Engineer

Essential is a design consultancy that partners with clients to design and commercialize products in the medical, consumer, and industrial sectors. While each day and project are unique, some of my responsibilities include:

  • Leading multidisciplinary teams through product development activities, including brainstorm sessions, product architecture definition, detailed CAD refinement, and design for manufacture
  • Assisting with business development by meeting with potential clients, planning engineering-focused programs, and writing proposals
  • Creating interactive prototypes using electronic prototyping platforms, such as Arduino, Teensy, and Raspberry Pi
  • Planning and leading small user research activities (in-home interviews, concept feedback sessions, etc)
Summer 2014
Engineering Intern
IDEO Cambridge

As an intern at IDEO, I worked on projects spanning the medical, consumer goods, and healthcare industries.

  • Helping facilitate a design thinking workshop for executives at a major pharmaceutical company
  • Live-prototyping retail environment concepts for a major consumer appliance brand
  • Sourcing softgoods and retail packaging vendors for an over-the counter pain management device
  • Generating concepts for a new beer tap handle
Summer 2013
Freelance Engineer

Nima builds connected devices that test food for unwanted ingredients, such as gluten and allergens. I worked with Nima's cofounders to build the first functional prototype of their product and secure seed funding.

  • Collaborated with the technical team to brainstorm and ultimately define the physical and functional architecture of the product, leading to multiple patents.
  • Designed and tested a disposable sensor capsule using an off-the-shelf gluten diagnostic sensor (similar to a pregnancy test).
2011 - 2012
User Experience Design
GE Global Research

I worked with a team at GE Global Research to design and build VehicleForge - a web platform used to crowdsource engineering designs for the US military. The VehicleForge program went on to crowdsource the design of an amphibious infantry assault vehicle.

I studied at

2010 - 2014
Massachusetts Institute of Technology
Dual MS in Mechanical Engineering, Technology & Policy
2006 - 2010
Massachusetts Institute of Technology
BS in Aerospace Engineering, Minor in Energy Studies
